We Have Begun

You may have wondered why we've called you here today.

Without wasting another second, let me outline the purpose of today’s meeting.

* Come on. Please help.

We need help because, duh, we always need help but we also want to celebrate
the fact that the Angel Party will be having its 10th anniversary this year.

Come join the party and make this a really super smash “worthy of ten years” event.

Here are three big ways to get started:

Sponsoring a child
First we need you to sponsor one of the more than 220 kids we plan to invite this year. How? You say you want a kid, we give you a kid plus all of his or her design specs and you go shopping for stuff. Scroll down to find the shopping lists in both English and Portuguese.

Planning
We also really need help with all aspects of planning this party. You can help a little, you can help a lot. But drop us a line and let us know that you’re interested. And, as we all know, there’s no escaping. It’s better to go ahead and volunteer because we’ll be cornering you later on at some party where you really would rather be enjoying your appetizers than trying to fend off the Angel Party Committee. Just go ahead and commit now. It’ll fun. Promise.

Donations
We need them. This party is run on the tightest of tight budgets and then, of course, we’re having the 10th Gala Fest in a year where no one is having Gala Fests at all. Economic downturn, all that. So we’ll need all the help that way you can give: cash donations, candy, prizes, one hundred pizzas, one thousand glitter gel pens… that kind of thing. Easy!

This is fun, this is worthwhile and, when it’s all put together and you’ve got 220 kids laughing and having fun, your heart just melts. Join us.

To Angel Party Alumni

It’s been ten years and through those years we’ve had incredible help from lots and lots of people, many of whom have left São Paulo and moved to other parts of the world. Some of you were very involved, from organizing the party to serving ice cream at the party to buying gifts for four or five children each year. And some of you offered moral support and sent cookies.

Either way, we miss you. A lot. Not just because you helped but because, well, we miss your being here. There are ways our Angel Party Alumni can still help, if you still feel as connected to us as we feel to you.


• You could consider making a donation. Two hundred and fifty reais buys a gift bag for one child and we’d go shopping for you. That same amount of money buys a heck of a lot of chocolate. It also buys some really goofy prizes down at 25 de março, or water and soft drinks for the party, or helps pay for part of the entertainment.

• If you’ve got the connections, you could shop in the States and send things to us, either the gifts for a specific child or a set of prizes or candy.

• You could organize a fund-raiser in your community and help pay for the entertainment or all the prizes or the transportation for the kids. Or a fund-raiser to buy sweatshirts for some of the kids, or new blankets for one institution or a contribution to their library.


• You could write a note to your co-workers or friends who still live here or have moved here in your place and explain the party to them. Urge them to contact us because we’re here for their warm fuzzy comfort come Christmas. And this is a great way to meet people, right?

More Super Interesting Information

* The party will be held on Saturday, November 14 at Chapel School, from noon to 5:30 p.m.

* If you're sponsoring a child from Vila Acalanto, the shopping list is a lot different. Please see below, OK?

* Tenth anniversary presents are supposed to be made of tin. It doesn’t really fit the Christmas theme that well but we’re working on it.

* Yup, we’re starting now because the idea is, if you sponsor a kid already, you can buy stuff in the States. Cheap and easy! (Hey, we’re slow but we catch on eventually.)

* 1 sweatshirt or jacket
* 1 pair of tennis shoes
* 1 package of underwear (3 pairs or so)
* 1 pair of socks
* 1 complete outfit (shirt and pair of pants)
* 1 backpack
* 1 candy treat
* 1 toy valued at no less than R$35

For teen boys (age 10+), soccer balls, sports equipment and skateboards are popular.

For teen girls (age 10+), one idea that always pleases is a bag or makeup box full of girlie things such as lipstick, makeup, hair trinkets, inexpensive jewelry and perhaps a small stuffed animal.

Para meninos adolescentes (idade 10+), bola de futebol, equipamento de esporte e skate são populares.

Para meninas adolescentes (idade 10+), uma idéia que sempre agrada é uma bolsa ou kit de maquiaguem cheio de coisas de meninas, como batom, prendedores de cabelo, bijuterias, e até um bichinho de pelúcia.
